Statto: Bob Fullam scores Ireland's first ever goal

For the First time ever Ireland played foreign based players

Ireland played Italy for the second time – this time the game taking place in Lansdowne Road in front of 20,000 supporters.

This match is recorded as Italy's "B" team.

The Independent Headline read

“Big Crowd at Rugby headquarters as Ireland beaten at home”.

“The Turin defeat in the first International is still unavenged”
so started the match report in the Irish Independent of Monday April 25 1927.

The game the first International game played in Southern Ireland since the Football Association of the Irish Free State assumed control of its own affairs.

For the first time the governing body substantiated their claim on the services of players born within the boundaries of the Irish Free State but who are assisting English and Scottish Clubs by including several in the starting eleven.

The Irish failing to realize expectations with Collins for once was not impressive and although Kirkland and Brady played well it was always obvious that the speed of the Italian forwards always bothered them.

Ireland had an early escape when Pastore hit a swerving shot that struck the crossbar with Collins apparently beaten.

Ireland went in front when a shot by Martin rebounded to Fullam who shot – a rising shot.

Following this goal Ireland played some neat passing football and should have increased their lead but Lacey was unable to get on the end of a cross by Martin.

Ireland were awarded several free kicks and it was from one of these free kicks that Fullam hit one of his legendry drives only to see Zanello get his head to a shot which knocked him unconscious and he was immediately replaced.

Muneratti with two second half goals – the first after a melee in the box but it was ten minutes from the end saw a soft goal conceded, Muneratti scoring with a shot from twenty yards out. It appeared that Collins had an easy task of saving but the ball passed to the net amidst general surprise.
