Ireland put up a creditable performance in their 2-2 draw (ht 1-1) away to Czechoslovakia.

On the run of play Czechoslovakia should have won despite the fact that they were reduced to 10 men for much of the game.

Ireland conceeded a penalty after 3 minutes when left full Gorman handled. Nejedly took the penalty giving Mc Kenzie in the Irish goal no chance.

Tom Davis equalised for Ireland in the 42nd minute when Tim O'Keeffe got the ball down the wing and crossed for Davis to control the ball in the box and bursting between two defenders gave the Czech keeper Planicka no chance with a shot to the back of the net.

Czechoslovakia took the lead with a goal one minute into the second half when Nejedly got his second goal with a splendid shot after beating two Irish defenders.

Ireland equalised in the last minute of the game when O'Keeffe had a long shot defy Planicka in the Czech goal for a splendid goal.
